Goblin goodies
Once again, it’s the attention to detail that has us salivating over the Hobgoblin’s offerings this year, particularly the spread they have on at their Roppongi outlet. 5,000 yen will see you stuffed with turkey, chipolata sausages (wrapped in bacon, natch), roast spuds and - for the perfectionists amongst you - brussel sprouts. The glass of champagne or wine ought to kickstart things nicely, while the rich Christmas cake and whipped cream will bring things to a satisfying, weighty end. It's also worth noting that their other outlets are offering a more cash friendly menu - give them a call for further details.
Delicious roast turkey like your mum used to make it. 5,000 yen per person. Sittings start from midday, December 25. Hobgoblin Roppongi, Minato-Ku (03 3568 1280)
The Christmas craic
Best not to dismiss the fact that Paddy Foley’s has the full turkey shebang in the oven and ready to go, but the big draw here might well be the vegetarian Christmas menu. We’re talking a tapas starter (eggplant, hummus, pumpkin and cheese to the fore) and a tasty looking basil infused veggie stir fry. Add a freshly baked almond cake to the menu, and you’ll be happy to know that Tokyo’s herbivores won’t be playing Tiny Tim this year.
Paddy Foley’s Christmas Dinner. 4,800 per person. December 22-27. Paddy Foley’s, Roppongi, Minato-Ku (03 3497 9900)
Tiny turkeys
We’re hoping that ‘bonsai turkey’ doesn’t refer to some kind of strangely shrunken bird - we can’t imagine the usually excellent Two Rooms would do anything so freakish. For something a bit more wallet friendly, try the Christmas brunch; the char-grilled Murakami veal and pork sausage looks suitably satisfying for midwinter bellies, followed by the aforementioned bonsai turkey with all the trimmings. Can’t say fairer than that at the price they’re asking. See you there.
Christmas Brunch. 3,950 yen per person. Lunch served 11.30am-2.30pm, December 23-25. Two Rooms, Kita-Aoyama, Minato-Ku (03 3498 0002)
Merry waffle
You’ll forgive us for a little self-publicity here, we hope. If you’re in the mood for a little Christmas cheer and a decent mug of steaming Joe, you could do far worse than heading over to our very own Time Out Cafe and snaffling up one of the gloriously named ‘merry waffles’. OK, so it’s not a full-on meal, but it’s piled high with ice cream, berries and white chocolate, and made with seasonal good naturedness - not a Scrooge in sight.
Merry waffle. 800 yen. Available weekdays 11.30am-23.30, Saturdays 1pm-11.30pm, Sundays 1pm-10pm. Time Out Café, Higashi, Shibuya-Ku (03 5774 0440)
