Toraya has been in business since the second half of the 16th century, so the 51 years this venerable confectionery shop has spent at its current Akasaka headquarters probably don't feel like an eternity. Still, the impending closing and complete rebuilding of this neighbourhood landmark is apparently significant enough for the Kyoto-born company to arrange a memorial light-up, viewable every evening until October 7. If you're passing by after dark, take a moment to look up and appreciate a soon-to-be-gone oldie.
