The Haunted Tower – Perfect Popular Culture

Hayao Miyazaki's retirement from filmmaking may have given the anime master some much-needed time to look back at his unique career – at least we guess that's what inspired him to push for and plan this rare special exhibit at Mitaka's Ghibli Museum. Introducing visitors to the world of Rampo Edogawa's 1937 novel 'The Haunted Tower' (Yureito), a work that Miyazaki himself credits as one of his most significant influences, the display consists of a giant Clock Tower and a jewel-filled labyrinth invoking the world of the novel, plus a large-scale diorama based on The Castle of Cagliostro (1979), Miyazaki's Ghibli debut that incorporates themes and settings from 'The Haunted Tower'. Unmissable for fans, the exhibit also features hand-drawn explanatory manga by the director himself.
