Review

Owariya boasts a friendly proprietress, fantastic oden and more than 85 years of history. The selection of oden items is vast, with more than 30 kinds to choose from, while the soup is a rich amber broth that leaves a slightly sweet taste on the tongue. If you're not sure where to start, try the ‘cabbage maki’, a standout item that's made by wrapping ground pork and beef in cabbage leaves for a rich combination of flavours. Pop along in the evening and you can enjoy an excellent selection of other dishes to accompany the oden. However, the best time to visit is at lunch, when you can get an oden teishoku (set meal), an assortment of oden complete with generous portion of chameshi (rice boiled in tea, flavored with saké and soy sauce), pickles and a bowl of miso soup, all for the wallet-friendly price of ¥700.
