Life in Tokyo

Artist: Japan
Available on: CD reissue of Quiet Life
Time Out says: David Sylvain was the archetypal New Romantic, and as such had a massive influence on Japan's Visual Kei scene, if only in appearance. His own band — Japan — had pretty much floundered by 1982, but not before releasing this little curate's egg, a 1979 single that insists that 'life can be cruel in Tokyo'. Not a life-altering revelation, as revelations go, but not without its truth, certainly. Sylvian continues to release music through his own Samadhi Sound label, and maintains strong artistic connections with Japan (the country, not the band).
