Located 30 mins by train from central Tokyo, Yomiuri Land has been thrilling the capital's theme park lovers since 1964. Key attractions include the Bandit and MOMOnGA roller coasters and a bona fide bungee jump. Plenty of smaller, kid-friendly rides make this a decent day out for the whole family and, as far as Tokyo attractions go, it's relatively cheap.
During the summer, Yomiuri Land opens its outdoor pool to the capital's wet'n'wild thrill seekers. The Giant Sky River (which charges extra) is the highlight, standing nearly 25m at its highest point, and running for 386m, navigable only with the use of a large rubber ring. Speed demons will get a minor pulse quickening on the straight and slalom slides, while more delicate types might like to consign themselves to the Anpanman pool – a much safer option. The park has a total of five pools, most of which get predictably crowded at weekends.
