New openings

Review

Kabukicho sure ain't what it used to be: the spring 2015 opening of Toho Cinemas Shinjuku and the associated 'cleanup' of the surrounding streets was a dramatic change in itself, and now the area around Hanazono Shrine looks to be getting the same treatment. The first new opener there is this admittedly impressive-looking spa complex, apparently inspired by the popular Thermae Romae series of manga and movies. Open 22 hours every day, Thermae-Yu features hot spring baths and rotenburo – supplied with onsen water from Izu daily – stone saunas, a full-on beauty salon, scrub treatments and a lounge complete with a café, bar and restaurant. Sounds like the perfect spot for relaxation after a long night out in Shinjuku.

Open August 18
