The Avanshell is the latest incarnation of a one-time serviced apartment building on a side street in Akasaka, a fact that’s reflected in the mini kitchens and other apartment-style touches. Long-term stays are encouraged, with a range of electronics and other items available to rent. Rooms are designed around five themes, with names like Zen, Primo and Ultimo, and are pleasingly spacious, with large living and work areas in addition to separate bedrooms.
