Komyo-ji

Museums & Attractions

Review

Kamakura's only major temple close to the sea, Komyo-ji was established in 1243, and has a huge wooden sanmon gate and an attractive lotus pond with carp and terrapins. A path behind the main prayer hall (on the right next to the playground) leads up the hill, giving views on clear days down the coast to Enoshima island and the Izu Peninsula, with Mt Fuji behind.
