Review

When US craft beer importers Nagano Trading moved to a new office in the Yoshidamachi district of Yokohama, they hit on the bright idea of turning the floor below into a bar and showroom. The bare-bones decor at Antenna America places the emphasis firmly on the beer – and speaking of beer, there's a lot of it to go around. Take your pick from over a hundred imported bottles from American microbreweries including Stone, Green Flash and Ballast Point – all sold at retail price – or opt for one of the draft varieties, which change every week (on a recent visit, they had Bear Republic brews on all four taps). Hop heads are in for a particular treat: you might find brutally bitter tipples such as Anderson Valley's Imperial IPA or Green Flash's aptly named Palate Wrecker lurking in the fridges, with ‘girly’ beers in far shorter supply. The kitchen whips up classy junk food like buffalo wings and hot dogs, and if you like the condiments you can buy some of those to take home too (try the chipotle mustard: it's mighty fine). The clincher, though, is the outdoor terrace: a plum perch for an evening of serious imbibing.
