In 1998, Ichiri Fujiura became the first non-American to win the Homebrewer of the Year award. But his Toasted Coconut Porter also earned him the attentions of the Japanese police: homebrewing, you see, is actually illegal here. 14 years on, the suds enthusiast got the last laugh with the opening of Watering Hole, a craft beer pub not far from Shinjuku Station that also hosts his own 'nano' brewery – all above board this time. Check out the official website for the latest beer menu, and enjoy up to 21 draft microbrews (a couple of them hand-pumped) from Japan and overseas, at prices that compare favourably to other beer joints around Tokyo.
