Review

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Tokyo was famously demolished in 1968, but few people realise that a smaller Wright building, a private school, still stands in Ikebukuro. Now used as an alumni meeting hall rather than for classes, it is open for tours (but it’s wise to call ahead first, especially at weekends, when it’s regularly booked for weddings). Viewed from the outside, the unusual geometry of the window frames is the clearest indication of Wright’s signature.
