There's no business that show business loves quite as much as, well, show business. This might help explain the enduring popularity of A Chorus Line, which holds the record as one of the longest-running Broadway musicals of all time. The tale of dancers auditioning for lowly chorus roles was an instant hit with audiences, and after debuting off Broadway in 1975, it went on to win 9 Tony awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama – a rare feat for a musical. It finally finished its Broadway run in 1990, having clocked up 6,137 performances. After getting the revival treatment in 2006, the musical is now touring around the world, directed by Baayork Lee – who played Connie in the original production, and has directed over 35 companies in productions of A Chorus Line since.
