Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri

Wed Aug 13 - Sun Aug 17, 2014 Tomioka Hachimangu

Time Out says

Known as one of the three ‘great festivals’ of Edo, the matsuri at Fukagawa's Tomioka Hachimangu shrine takes place annually, but is celebrated in all its glory only once every three years. 2014 is such a year, so you can expect up to 120 mikoshi (portable shrines) processions, rowdy dance performances, and plenty of people throwing water on the participants (on Sunday Aug 17 only).
