Suginami Historical Museum

Museums & Attractions

Review

This museum is a must-visit if you live in Suginami Ward, and even visitors from further away will enjoy the interesting exhibits. The permanent displays trace the history of the area from prehistoric times to modernity through informative displays, artefacts and miniatures, while the rotating special exhibitions always take up a specific topic or theme. English explanations are sparse, but the pamphlet available at the entrance does a decent job of enlighting non-Japanese speakers. Don't miss the impressive reconstructions of historical buildings outside – the Edo-era family house is especially worth a look. Note that the museum is pretty far from all train stations, so taking a bus (45 from Eifukucho toward Koenji) is recommended.
