The oldest member in Khaosan's mini-empire of Asakusa backpacker hostels boasts the most convenient location – it's literally right on top of the subway station – and one of the lowest rates, with dorm beds costing just ¥2,200 per night. Yet it's been overshadowed by some of its successors: while you can expect the same friendly service and free WiFi you'd get at other Khaosan hostels (plus a rooftop terrace overlooking the adjacent Sumida River), the rooms are unusually cramped and the facilities are starting to show their age.
