Photo of the day: Alan McGee hits Shibuya

Fans of Oasis and Beady Eye missed out on a treat over the weekend when frontman Liam Gallagher cancelled his in-store appearance at Beams Shibuya at the last minute, depriving truckloads of Japanese mods the chance to see their leader in the flesh, as well as witness one-time Creation Records supremo Alan McGee spring a surprise on his former employee.

Little did anyone other than Time Out Tokyo know that McGee was on his way to cast an eye over proceedings – though he was adamant he wouldn't be queueing up to get anything signed. The former record mogul, currently riding out a wave of controversy over recent comments on the burning of the Sony Building during the London riots ('I'm probably the only person who thought that was funny. I call that a result. Got rid of all the shit music.'), is in town to DJ at tonight's Alan McGee's Creation Night, taking place at Unit in Daikanyama.

So low-key was the meeting that it was only on arriving at the shop that our little entourage discovered Gallagher had cancelled (no word on why, though a severe hangover didn't seem out of the question). Slightly disheartened, we went for a wander through the Shibuya streets, where Alan happily posed in front of a gang of Hinomaru-waving protesters – hence today's Photo of the Day.
