St. Patrick's Day update

The celebrations will be subdued this evening, but they're still happening

St. Patrick's Day update

Any other year, the promise of cheap Guinness at pubs around town would be cause for celebration. After the events of the past week, though, we're just happy to know that St. Patrick's Day is even happening. Here's what you can expect at the Irish pubs around Tokyo.

Tullamore

The original plan at Tullamore was to knock money off the drinks for St. Paddy's Day. Now they've decided to charge the same price as usual, and keep the savings as charity donations. Nicely done. Open until 1am.
Tullamore 1-6-10 Tomigaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo (03 3481 0216)

Inishmore

Don't expect cheap drinks, but there'll be a whole lot of love at Inishmore: 500 yen of every 1,000 yen Guinness pint sold until March 20 will be donated to charity.
Inishmore 3-14-7 Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo (03 5791 3824)

The Cluracan

There'll be 500 yen pints of Guinness and Kilkenny in Koenji this evening. The owners haven't started taking donations yet, though they told us they're planning to begin fundraising next week.
The Cluracan 4-9-6 Koenji-Minami, Suginami-ku, Tokyo (03 5930 1752)

Kenny's

Over in Chofu, they're holding a special 'charity beer' campaign for quake relief. All glasses of Heineken are being served free until March 21 – though customers are expected to make a donation with each order. Be generous, now.
Kenny's 2F 1-25-1 Fuda, Chofu-shi, Tokyo (042 482 5510)

County Clare

Never mind that they're expecting blackouts in Tachikawa this evening: the staff at County Clare say that they'll still be going ahead with their St. Patrick's Day celebrations, even if they have to do it by candlelight. That's the spirit.
County Clare 2F, 2-15-21 Akebonocho, Tachikawa-shi, Tokyo (042 523 8307)

The Dubliners'

Most branches of The Dubliners' have cancelled the live bands or DJs they had scheduled, and a few will be closing earlier than usual. On the plus side, they're still offering 500 yen pints, and donations for quake relief are being taken at the bar.
The Dubliners' Akasaka B1 Sanno Park Tower, 2-11-1 Nagata-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo (03 3539 3615)
The Dubliners' Ikebukuro B1 Sun Gorou Bldg, 1-10-8 Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo (03 5951 3614)

The Dubliners' Toranomon 1F New Toranomon Bldg, 1-1-18 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo (03 5501 1536)

Seamus O'Hara

Yes, they'll still be pulling 500 yen pints of draft beer at Seamus O'Hara this evening, although customers are being encouraged to drop their savings straight into the charity donations box. The scheduled Irish DJ session will also be going ahead as planned.
Seamus O'Hara B1F Matsuda Bldg, 3-12-3 Meguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo (03 3760 6179)

The Irish Times

After thinking about it long and hard, the owners of The Irish Times vowed to press on with their St. Paddy's Day event, although only the No. 1 branch is open. Turn up from 6-11pm for 500 yen pints of Guinness and Kilkenny, plus glasses of Bushmills and Black Bush for the same price.
The Irish Times 2-9-16 Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo (03 3500 0200)

O'Carolan's

Alas, the blackouts have forced O'Carolan's to cancel the events they had planned today. The owner told us they'd be reopening when the lights come back on at 10pm, though added balefully, 'I just wonder if anybody will come…'
