Summer Sonic 2011

The lineup has been announced, details below

Summer Sonic 2011

And the winners are...

Primal Scream, will be presenting classic album, Screamadelica (Osaka only), P.i.L. (Public Image Limited — Tokyo only), Suede, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Mars Volta, James Blunt, Panic at the Disco, Mutemath, Simple Plan, House of Pain, Arrested Development (Tokyo only), Brother, Deerhunter, Friendly Fires, Jessie J, Mona, Maximum the Hormone, Neon Trees, OFWGTA, One OK Rock, Sharks, Two Door Cinema Club...

Previously announced headliners are The Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Creativeman has just revealed that the eagerly awaited "special guest" is none other than Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis pub rock group Beady Eye.

On first inspection, not a groundbreaking lineup, though the prospect of seeing Primal Scream join the likes of Pink Floyd in presenting whole albums as one performance is interesting, if only because it suggests that they're beginning to recognise their future as a nostalgia act. In truth, much of the lineup seems to be a little long in the tooth — Suede, P.i.L. and Jon Spencer are hardly nippers, and Time Out was listening to Arrested Development when we were still in short trousers. That said, OFWGTA brings some much needed street cred, and both Two Door Cinema Club and Friendly Fires keep the musician age low(er).
