Tokyo's biggest pro tennis tournament of the year features many of the world's top female players, who compete on the hard courts of Ariake Colosseum and Tennis Forest Park for a combined prize of over US$2 million. The sport's three top-ranked players – Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska, last year's defending champion – are all taking part, though you'll have to look way down the list to find any of their Japanese counterpart (Ayumi Morita and Kimiko Date-Krumm made the cut, albeit only as wild cards). Note that September 21-22 is given over to preliminaries, but the main tournament doesn't start until September 23.
