Shining the spotlight on Japanese directors active from the 1980s onward, the National Film Centre's 'His Own Selection' programme welcomes Kazuyuki Izutsu for its third edition. Born in 1952, Izutsu started out directing 'pink' films in the mid-'70s before moving on to themes like organised crime and quirky social realism with hits like Gaki Teikoku (1981) and Boys Be Ambitious (1996). A popular media commentator and critic, he maintains a steady presence on the Japanese cinema scene, despite being rather unknown internationally. This retrospective stretches from the late '70s all the way up to Izutsu's latest film, the 2012 crime flick Fly with the Gold.
