Setsubune, or the 'bean-throwing festival' is a ritual to cleanse away evil from the previous year and Asakusa's Sensoji is one of the temples that do it big. Nowadays, this event is well-known for celebrities who participate in the ceremony, which attracts around 100 thousand visitors every year. The ceremony itself is conducted from a special stage built especially for Setsubun inside the main temple. There's also a performance where the Seven Deities of Good Fortune gather and dance for long life and happiness.
