Silent Film Renaissance: Lois Weber

The National Film Centre's yearly silent films program returns for its 2013 edition, and features 11 films (6 screenings) by the pioneering director Lois Weber, one of the most important female filmmakers in the history of American cinema. The pictures shown demonstrate Weber's commitment to the pressing social issues of her time, including contraception and the expansion of education. All movies are shown with live piano accompaniment and the spoken explanation of a benshi narrator.
