Oimachi’s Higashi-Koji yokocho is riddled with dirt-cheap izakayas and other more or less unseemly boozers, but this stylish wine bar sure makes for a nice exception. The lovely ladies behind the counter serve up a fine selection of mainly European wines, with a focus on organic and natural varieties, plus some tasty appetisers including prosciutto, gourmet cheese, bruschetta and absolutely delicious olive jam. Prices may be a little steep and space is at a premium (the tiny room has seats for six or so customers), but anyone looking for a classy sipping experience sure won’t be disappointed. Yukiko Hirano, food author and owner of 8 Huit, also makes occasional appearances at the bar and is always happy to share tasty details about the wares on offer. This is one of those places that'll make you forget all about the daily grind and help you rediscover your epicurean side.
