And you thought that Tokyo's Oktoberfests were the only ones that got their dates wrong... Held annually in the USA to commemorate Mexico's historic victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, the Cinco de Mayo Festival will be heading to Tokyo for the first time this year – though it's arriving a couple of days ahead of schedule (presumably to avoid clashing with the May 5 Children's Day). Veracruz natives Oscar Lobbo (of chart-topping dance act Grupo Climax) and Fabiola Jaramillo – who rose to fame via La Nueva Academia, Mexico's answer to The X Factor – perform on both days, alongside mariachi bands, rockabillies and traditional dancers from Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru. There'll also be piñata sessions for the kids, plus a variety of Tex-Mex food stands and market stalls. See the website for a schedule.
