Miss Tanaka

Wed Sep 26 - Sun Sep 30, 2012 Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (West Theatre)

Time Out says

First performed in 2001, John Romeril's play about a pearl diver born to Japanese and Australian-Aboriginal parents in pre-WWII Oz finally makes its Japanese debut this month. But this isn't a conventional staging: Miss Tanaka is being performed by the Youkiza theatre company – specialists in a style of string-operated puppetry that's been popular since the dawn of the Edo era – with musical accompaniment from didgeridoo player Matthew Doyle, percussionist Tony Lewis and avant-garde cello wrangler Hiromichi Sakamoto. Sounds like a humdinger.
