The Institut Franco-Japonais at Iidabashi switches the focus of its Weekend Cinema series for this third edition, leaving the world of French cinema behind and moving on to the work of director Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982), one of the key figures of New German Cinema. Three of the prodigious auteur's later films will be screened over three September days: The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979), a tale of unfulfilled love in postwar Germany, 1981 comedy-melodrama Lola, and 1974's Martha, which sketches a disturbing picture of the stereotypical bourgeois marriage.
Note that all films will be shown with Japanese subtitles only.
