Time Out says

The annual Ueno Sakura Festival, located near the Shinobazu-no-Ike pond, presents a great opportunity for locals and tourists alike to get into the matsuri spirit. Japanese festival food is always worth a nibble, and occasional events throughout the festival ought to keep the crowds entertained. However, cherry blossom is the true star of this event, with 1,200 trees bursting into heavy bloom throughout Ueno Park, and bonbori paper lanterns lending the atmosphere a special ye olde worlde air between 5.30pm and 8pm. Highly recommended.
