Despite being a popular spot with foreign tourists, Kyoto’s Gion district is full of 'ichigensan okotowari
(no first-timers)' clubs that don’t accept customers off the street. Time Out Lounge Gion is a members-only club for foreign tourists. Members can use the lounge as they please, in line with Gion’s members only tradition, as maintained by the area's Japanese customers. Due to this system, membership is by referral only.
Gion is a traditional district that still retains its charming antiquities to this day, especially so on the south side. Walking a short way towards Yasaka Shrine, one finds a quiet neighbourhood with wooden two-storey buildings, and in one such building – on the 2nd floor of a former residence – is the Time Out Lounge. Upon entering through a lattice doorway, guests can walk past the staircase into the shop interior, plush with deep-crimson carpeting. The space holds a counter seating 12 and four private rooms are under preparation.
Membership guidelines will be announced in the near future.
