In Kamishichiken, a maiko district that flies below most radars, you’ll find this former purveyor of confectionery to the imperial family (the Emperor no longer has official suppliers). The goodies are, of course, seasonal: in summertime, look for the bitter oranges filled with bitter-sweet jelly, and in winter try the kokamochi (a complex sweet with orange peel, pine nuts, raisins and almonds). Oimatsu offers a 75min confectionery-making class each morning (reservations essential).
