Review

If you thought BBC nature documentaries Planet Earth and Frozen Planet were spectacular, just wait until you see this collaboration between BBC Earth and Sega. Opened in August 2013 in Yokohama's Mark Is Minatomirai shopping centre, Orbi Yokohama promises a ‘supercharged nature experience’ that fuses the Beeb's superlative nature footage with the kind of high-tech, reality-bending attractions seen at Sega's Joypolis arcade in Odaiba. A central theatre shows bespoke movies on a 40m-wide screen – complete with wind, fog, smells, flashing lights and ‘super-stereo’ sound – while other exhibits recreate habitats ranging from the deep sea to an arctic wilderness, as well as offering a peek behind the scenes of a nature documentary.
