Mara Yamauchi marathon lecture

Sponsored by Virgin Atlantic and supported by Time Out Tokyo, Time Out Café & Diner in Ebisu will be hosting a marathon lecture given by British marathoner and Japanese resident Mara Yamauchi.

In the 2006 London Marathon, Mara became the second fastest British woman ever (second only to world record holder Paula Radcliffe), hammering out a marathon time of 2:25:13. She followed this up with her performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she represented the UK coming in 6th overall. She followed this showing with a personal best that helped her take second place at the April 2009 London Marathon. Currently, she is training daily and setting her sights on the Virgin London 2010 Marathon.

More than a professional runner, Mara has also moonlighted as a member of the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having worked at the British Embassy in Japan. When preparing for the Beijing Olympics, Yamauchi took a sabbatical from the Ministry to dedicate herself to training for a spot on the medals podium.

In this kind of intense training, how did she keep up her concentration and motivation? Mara Yamauchi will be discussing these questions, among other topics while covering techniques for achieving your best, training for a full marathon, and the nuts and bolts of marathon competition regulations in a one hour lecture.
