L: Kie R: Ponkotsu
Kie: The focus of my style today is the colour red. I often put red together with purple. I am wearing a wig and my glasses to make a statement.
Ponkotsu: My outfit is a combination of four different second-hand pieces that are all neutral-coloured. The focal point of my look is my bright red lips and nails, and my fur hat.

L: Amu R: Haruppi
Amu: Today I have tried to dress like someone that you’d see in the magazine Zipper. I often buy clothes at La Foret in Harajuku.
Haruppi: My stars-and-stripes scarf is the focus of my outfit. It’s not like I am crazy about America, but I love American import stores. I often go shopping in Harajuku or Yokohama.

L: Non-chan R: Ayaka
Non-chan: I have tried to match everything with red. I usually buy second- hand clothes and visit about five stores in Harajuku. PanamaBoy and Chicago are examples of places that have clothes that I like.
Ayaka: My theme is ‘Mountain Girl’ – not that I usually go mountain climbing. [Laughs]

Taro
Taro: Black is usually my staple colour. I usually don’t wear anything that is shiny, but today is special because I am selling churros. I only wear skirts. I only own skirts. They are so much easier. [Laughs]

L: Sera R: Sayaka
Sera: The dress I am wearing today is made by the Lolita-style brand, Baby.
Sayaka: I am wearing all pastel-coloured clothes today. This is my real hair so I wear a wig when I go to work and I wear non-Lolita looking clothes.

L to R: Shohei, Shu, Reo, Taku, Takeshi
Reo: We are members of the planning committee for this festival. We are in charge of the outdoor stage so we’ve been run off our feet.

L to R: Kakky, Mariko-sama, Ganbastar, Akky
Kakky: We are look after the operational side so we help with planning. Because we work behind the scenes we are meant to wear black. I had put on all the black clothes that were at my house.
Ganbastar: I have gone with black so I don’t look too put together. The other day, I decided to get my hair dyed from blond to red. Getting your hair coloured really hurts.
Akky: I have coordinated with black in a circus theme. My shoes are made by Nenetto – I didn’t just draw polka dots on them. [Laughs]

L: Hinako R: Kurumi
Hinako: I like clothes made out of material that is baby-like. Most of my clothes are second hand. I often go to Panamaboy in Harajuku.
Kurumi: I bought my hat at a military supply store in Ueno called Nakata Shoten. My jacket is also a second hand military jacket.

L: Kenji R: Masahiro
Kenji: I have gone for a sober look so that I am not overwhelmed by my surroundings. The focal point of my outfit is my bandana, which says ‘health’ and ‘happiness’.
Masahiro: I have gone for a pyjama style. This bandana around my head is the latest craze.

Chie Toyokawa
CT: I have come from Aomori to Tokyo for this culture festival. There is a sister school in Aomori, which I attend. But today I am here to take part in the design drawings award ceremony. It’s an important occasion so I am wearing a sable fur and a sequinned top. I want people to feel me twinkling.

Abesaya
Abesaya: I am selling chocolate covered bananas but today we just don’t have enough. I usually go for a casual style, but today I have gone for the maid look.
