In what's either really good or spectacularly bad timing, the Kanda Ogawamachi neighbourhood is hosting its annual snow festival just days after Tokyo received a heavy dusting of the white stuff. 70 tons of snow are being trucked over from Gunma Prefecture for the event (guess they planned that one in advance), to be used in a snowman-making contest and for a small, kid-friendly toboggan run, while you can also warm your toes in an onsen footbath and sample some barbecued fish and yaki-manju dumplings. The snowman building will take place on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, with the main event getting underway after that.
