The Imperial Palace is a popular running and jogging spot in Tokyo. In the surrounding Hanzomon area, more and more facilities are springing up to support these ‘Imperial Palace runners’. Last November the Hanzomon Runners’ Satellite JOGLIS opened in the basement floor of the Tokyo FM head office, and on February 2 Wacoal opened their CW-X Conditioning Store Hanzomon. Adding their own concept store to the trend, adidas Japan unveiled its adidas RUNBASE on February 19, a mere 300 metres from the Imperial Palace.
The expert staff at this conveniently located store are headed up by master of shoecraft Hitoshi Mimura. Shoes are the one thing that truly protect your body when you are running, so it’s important to get a pair that really fit your own feet. Mimura and his team at adidas RUNBASE are able to work with customers to individually fit shoes using special technical support, allowing for a more accurate fit that will protect your feet and gait while running.
Other amenities include an incredible 248 lockers as well as eight shower stalls (four for men and women each). The stylish interior of the locker rooms incorporates a slick black colour palette and the adidas logo throughout; even the smallest details such as cotton swabs and toilet paper have been ensured to fit into the theme. The shop also holds special events to bring different runners together where you can participate at a level to match your own skills or goals.
It’s said that there are a staggering 26,000,000 runners in Japan, and that many among them have lost their sense of purpose. A visit to this new facility created expressly for them seems like the perfect chance to get them back on track. adidas RUNBASE might just be the place to do it.
