This century-old building began life as a kimono store, but the interior was revamped in 2002, transforming it into one of Kyoto’s coolest cafes. Designer furnishings, art books and modern cafe grub is hardly an original formula, but the blend of historic and contemporary detail has proved a big hit with young Kyoto-ites. The cafe added a bakery in 2008, which sells a small but tasty range of loaves and rolls until 11pm.
