Yokohama Oktoberfest 2012
The real Oktoberfest in Munich wound up last weekend, and now its Tokyo-area imitators are following suit. If you don't fancy a trip out of town, try the Odaiba Oktoberfest, but Yokohama's is the real top dog. Read more

Head to Meiji Shrine to see one of Tokyo's more unusual (and oddly charming) annual rites, in which Shinto priests perform what's essentially an exorcism for toys, freeing the spirits from battered dolls and stuffed animals. Read more
