Yokohama Triennale 2011
There's been a lot going on behind the scenes since the 2008 edition of Yokohama's lavish art festival. The latest Triennale opens this weekend, with the presumably crowd-pleasing theme 'Our Magic Hour'. Read more

Kanagawa Arts Theatre's celebration of street dance wraps up this weekend with a series of performances featuring Brazilian troupe Compagnie Käfig, whose members grew up in the country's favelas. Read more

Meteo Night 2011
Call it the anti Rock in Japan, if you will. Meteo Night takes place on the same day as the ultra-commercial J-rock fest up in Ibaraki Prefecture, but that's about all that the two events have in common. Read more

Fussa Tanabata Festival
Tokyo chooses to celebrate the star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi in August rather than July. The largest festival is in Fussa, though you might also try the Asagaya Tanabata Matsuri instead. Read more

After signing to a Japanese major in 1990, French singer Clémentine never really looked back. Her most recent hit was Animentine~Bossa du Animé, an album of bossa nova cover versions of anime songs. Read more


Under the Influence
Liquidroom's 7th anniversary celebrations rumble on with a heavyweight selection of Tokyo bands. With Envy, Friction, Mo'some Tonebender and Nisennenmondai all playing, this promises to be a corker. Read more
