Museums & Sights

Review

Proud of its prominent role in the world’s oldest novel, Uji opened this dedicated museum in 1998. Suprisingly large for a museum based on a single book, the galleries include recreations of aristocratic life in the Heian period and audio-visual renderings of the story. Whether or not you care about the Tale, the museum should whet your appetite to explore its setting.
