One of Japan’s best-known castles, Osaka-jo was built to flaunt the power of warlord Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The main tower is a 1931 ferroconcrete reconstruction of the 1598 original, with all but the moat and outer walls having fallen to mishaps, manmade or natural. The main tower is now a museum narrating the history of the castle through art, armour and weaponry. The grounds accommodate an extensive and popular park, which hosts amateur music, sport and picnickers.
