In the Nishijin weaving district, where a fabric auction house once stood, this multi-storey celebration of local textiles gives visitors the chance to watch a kimono fashion show, try their hand at weaving, view historic garments, and spend their yen in the sizeable souvenir section. English-speaking staff make it a great place for tourists. Entrance and the kimono show are free; the weaving workshop costs ¥1,800 and should be booked at least a day ahead.
