Director: David Brooks
Starring: Alice Eve, Josh Peck, Brian Geraghty
Time Out rating:
A financial-industry drone (Brian Geraghty), the coworker he’s sweet on (Alice Eve) and his obnoxious best friend (Josh Peck) decide to make a quick pit stop on their way home after an office Christmas party. In a plot twist that would make Phone Booth screenwriter Larry Cohen envious, the three find themselves trapped inside a bank’s ATM booth by a mysterious killer in a hooded parka. The novelty of the film’s geographical gimmick wears out its welcome quicker than the time it took to read that last sentence, as director David Brooks never properly exploits or expands on the single-location premise for B-picture thrills and chills. As both a horror film and an attempt to detail a dark night of the yuppie soul, this pitiful potboiler gives new meaning to the term 'insufficient funds.'
ATM opens at Ciné Quinto, Shibuya on October 20
