Apollo 18

This found-footage horror flick was best left on the moon

Apollo 18

(C) 2011 Misand Limited ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Director: Gonzalo López-Gallego
Starring: Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen, Ryan Robbins
Time Out rating:

Film fragments of a secret space mission make up the vast majority of this tedious fake-found-footage horror movie, which peddles an even goofier lunar conspiracy theory than the one proffered in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Director Gonzalo López-Gallego proves a poor student of the Blair Witch formula; despite its apparent artlessness, that forerunner pioneered a meticulous anti-aesthetic predicated on suggestive use of sound and deliberately off-centre camera placement. By contrast, all Apollo 18 has to offer is endless radio crackle and visual incoherence. And what's out there, tormenting the astronauts? The answer is dumber than a box of moon rocks.

Apollo 18 opens at Shinjuku Musashinokan and Shibuya Toei on April 14
