The Big Bang

More like a large, loud thud

The Big Bang

(C) 2010 THE BIG BANG PRODUCTION, INC.ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Director: Tony Krantz
Starring: Antonio Banderas, Sam Elliott, James Van Der Beek
Time Out rating:

An L.A. private eye (Antonio Banderas) is hired by a Russian former boxer to find a beautiful stripper (Sienna Guillory). Convolutions involving diamonds, a dirty-minded movie star (James Van Der Beek) and a reclusive billionaire (Sam Elliott) planning to re-create the big bang via a particle accelerator pile up, transforming what was already a torturously intricate mystery into a hideous retro-pulp rip-off. Agent-turned-director Tony Krantz has a penchant for stylisation that quickly slides into a velvet-painting cheesiness, which – along with the script’s pseudoprofound Philosophy 101 maxims – renders the atmosphere less noirish than ridiculously cartoonish.

The Big Bang opens at Theater N Shibuya on November 19
