The Kongo Noh school, one of the nation’s big five, has been performing for 26 generations. Their art form may draw only a fraction of the support it once enjoyed, but in 2003 the family opened this splendid 420-seat theatre in a purpose-built piece of modern architecture. Their 100-show-a-year schedule is prolific by Noh standards, and English-language plot summaries and even occasional simultaneous translations help make things more accessible. Still, given the notoriously glacial pace of performances, you’ll be glad the seats are so comfy.
