Hozu River Boats

Take the aptly named Sagano Scenic Railway from Saga Torokko Station (adjacent to JR Saga Arashiyama Station) to Kameoka Torokko Station (the journey costs ¥600, but doesn’t run on Wednesdays), then ride the Hozu river back to Arashiyama. A trio of oarsmen propels each boat, carrying up to 20 passengers on a two-hour ride through the picturesque canyon, over rapids and past some of the most idyllic scenes in the area. Boats depart hourly.
