If you’re going to make a mockery of your favourite song, why not do so with smoke machines, glitter balls and disco lights at Super Jankara (super jumbo karaoke), Kyoto’s seven-storey, 81-room karaoke behemoth? The fancy gimmicks and gadgets are only available in the ‘premium’ rooms, but they cost as little as 40 yen extra per person per hour. As with most karaoke in Japan, rooms are hired by groups for private ignominy.
