The Okura claims to be the oldest hotel in Kyoto, but since it was razed and rebuilt in the early 1990s, that doesn’t really count. It can boast of being the tallest in the area, with 17 floors, but the best reason to stay is the location, above a subway station in the Down-town district. In terms of style and service, it meets rather than exceeds expectations for a high-end hotel.
