Ryokan owners like to talk of their inns as family homes, and Yoshikawa may be the most convincing example. With just eight rooms, the inn provides attentive and friendly service, and the lobby’s dramatic hearth is a great place to sip tea and chat to staff or fellow guests. The building has changed little since it was built over a century ago, but rooms now boast modern luxuries such as internet access and under-floor heating. The best rooms have views of the fabulous garden and carp pond.
