When it comes to cuisine, Kyushu’s love of tradition and its foreign leanings come together beautifully. You can flit between a classic Japanese hotpot and sashimi at a traditional izakaya (‘pub’), to getting involved in a Korean barbeque and even enjoying local burgers (‘sasebo’) and sponge cakes (‘castella’) both of which have been adopted and adapted by the islanders.
